Description

DV fills the description field with several different components. In most cases, the advertiser can determine which components should be included and in which order. The components are:

  • Object remarks
  • Additional object information (see below)
  • Default remarks for the advertiser
  • Extra text

Formatting

DV allows for advertisers to use rich text in the object remarks. As such, DV tries to maintain this format when advertising the object. If the site does not support rich text (or to a lesser degree) DV automatically strips (parts of) the formatting.
If the site does support rich text (or even just line breaks) DV uses this for the other components of the advertisement description as well, for example to format the additional object information.

Additional object information

DV tries to send the object information in a structural way as much as possible, by using the available data fields (see II.3. Data fields). Information that cannot be sent in a structural way still needs to be published. DV tries to include this information in the description. That way all the information supplied to DV will still be visible to potential customers. Which information is included in the remarks depends on things like:

  • Which information can be supplied in a structural way
Example: if the site has a data field for the mileage (and this field is visible on the advertisement), DV uses that field and will not repeat the milage in the remarks.
  • The amount of space available in the remarks
Example: if the remarks is limited to 500 characters, it is possible there will not be enough room for all the information.
  • The support for line breaks by the site
Example: if the site does not allow for line breaks in the remarks, all information will be shown as one continous line. It is not possible to publish information such as the maintenance history in a clear manner this way. DV then omits this information, or only publishes a summary of the information.
  • Availability of translations
Example: if the description needs to be in Russian and DV has no Russian translation available for certain information, this information will be omitted.
  • Any preferences of the advertiser
Example: if the advertiser has instructed DV to only publish the object remarks and no other components, the additional object information will not be included.
