Both the make and model of an object (if applicable) are free text in DV. This way advertisers are not constrained to a predefined or possibly outdated list. Fundamentally, DV sends the make and model as-is to the site. This might however present a problem if the site allows users to search for advertisements using make and model criteria. Users are usually presented with dropdowns to choose their desired make and model. This means the free text values entered by the advertiser should be mapped to the fixed make and model lists of the site in order for the advertisement to be findable (or even accepted).
If a site makes these lists available to DV, for example by hosting the lists in JSON or XML format on the website, DV performs the required mapping using an advanced algorithm backed by detailed knowledge about specific makes and models. DV downloads these lists periodically (usually once a day) and automatically detects changes.
Sites without make and model lists, or sites unable to make these available to DV, can opt for using Hexon's own make and model lists, thus receiving only predefined makes and models instead of free text. Hexon cannot be held responsible for the contents of these lists, so it is always advised to host and manage your own lists.
