Taking advertisements offline
In some cases there might be a need for making existing advertisements temporarily invisible. These advertisements will no longer show up in search results and can no longer be viewed. They however still exist in the site's database (with exception of the wiped mode, see below).
Possible reasons can be an advertiser being late on payments, a complaint that has been filed for an advertisement or a cost per click budget no longer being sufficient.
Whatever the reason, it is important to notify DV of such an event. DV will use the feedback mechanisms to relay this information back to the advertiser.
DV supports different modes of offline advertisements and relate to how the advertisement will get back online:
- Wait for reactivation. The advertisement will stay offline until DV receives a notification from the site stating the advertisement has been put back online. In the mean time DV keeps sending update mutations if appropriate, potentially triggering the advertisement going back online. DV will also send a delete mutation if the object has been sold (or the advertiser no longer wishes to advertise the object), just like normal.
- Needs update. This mode is used when sending an update action for the advertisement will automatically get the advertisement back online. DV will however require manual intervention from the advertiser before sending the update action. It can be used when informing the advertiser to address any policy violations.
- Wiped. Here the advert has actually been removed from the site's database. DV will not automatically re-insert this advertisement but instead require manual intervention from the advertiser before sending the add action.
- Wait for approval. This last mode is used when any new advertisement on the site needs to be (manually) approved first.
Offline advertisements will appear to the advertiser as not being advertised, accompanied with the appropriate error message.
