Media

DV allows for different types of media to be included with an object

Images

Images are an important part of an advertisement.

Requirements and recommendations

  • Objects can have an unlimited number of images attached;
  • The following image formats are supported: image/jpeg, image/png, image/gif, image/svg+xml, image/tiff, image/webp, image/heif, image/bmp, image/avif;
  • Various colour spaces are supported, SRGB being the standard;
  • Image containers containing more than one image (for example, animated GIFs) are not supported;
  • DV always stores the original image and automatically creates scaled copies as needed for specific sites;
  • It is therefore advised to send the images in the original resolution as supplied by the camera;
  • There are no limits to the image width and height in pixels, though there currently isn't much use for images larger than 10 MP;
  • There is no limit to the file size;
  • All aspect ratios are supported, but 4:3 and 3:2 are most commonly used;

Transfer methods

Images can be transferred to DV in a couple of ways, the two most common begin:

  • As files
    To save space, only new or changed images should be sent. Be sure to include a way for DV to detect deleted images though. For example, by always including a complete list of filenames with each object.
  • As references (URLs)
    DV automatically downloads the images. If possible, make sure the images can be cached in order to avoid unnecessary traffic

Overlays

DV supports overlaying templates on top of images. Example use cases are: including a company logo on each image or attracting attention to an upcoming car show.

Requirements and recommendations

  • Overlays are stored with an advertiser, not with an object
  • An advertiser can have one or more overlays;
  • An object image can reference at most two overlays:
    • One when used on regular sites;
    • One when used on the dealer website;
  • Overlays cannot be positioned; there are overlaid top to bottom, left to right. So in order to put a logo in the bottom right corner, supply a mostly transparent picture with the logo in the bottom right corner;
  • Only PNG and GIF files (with transparency) are supported;
  • For best results, match the aspect ratio of the overlay to the object images;
  • Multiple aspect ratios and resolutions can be combined into one set. DV will automatically pick the best matching one.
  • Some sites do not allow for overlays; DV sends the images without overlays if necessary

360ยบ interior images

One or more panoramic images can be attached to an object. They are most commonly used for displaying the interior of a vehicle. Images should be in equirectangular format, JPEG, and preferably be in a large format, allowing users to zoom in to specific elements.
Please note that support for panoramic images on sites is rather limited.

Videos

An object can support one or more videos, hosted on different platforms. DV does not store a copy of the video attached to an object, but keeps references to video files hosted on external platforms like YouTube and Vimeo. Please make sure the included references are valid during the lifecycle of the advertisements.

Documents

Scanned or digital documents like warranty certificates, inspection reports and registration papers can be attached to an object. Please take care when including sensitive documents especially when adverting the object on public sites.
