Benefits and limitations

This page describes the benefits of using DV for all the involved parties (except sites, which are shown in III.1.2. Benefits and limitations). It also outlines some of things the service cannot do.

Benefits to the advertiser

  • The advertiser is able to continue to use the inventory management system they are familiar with.
  • Vehicle data has to be entered only once rather then separately for each site.
  • The same applies for changes to an object (for example a price change) and marking an object as sold.
  • Having the same data source results in consistent information about the object being displayed on the various sites.
  • DV will automatically compose text with information about the object that could not be sent in a structural way to the site. For example: if the site has no support for displaying the upholstery of a vehicle, DV will automatically add an appropriate description to the advertisement text.
  • Feedback allows the advertiser to check the current status of his advertisements.
  • Objects not satisfying the specific requirements of a site will be reported, along with a possible solution.
  • The advertiser may use all available links (unless restricted by the reseller). This allows the advertiser to expand its online presence easily and access new markets with little effort.
  • DV is capable of real-time processing of vehicle data. If supported by both the inventory management system and the site, it is possible to advertise objects in mere seconds.
  • DV supports a wide variety of vehicle types; in most cases an occasional vehicle type not common for the advertiser can be advertised as well.
  • The advertiser profits from the continual improvements to DV and its growing list of connected sites.

Benefits to the inventory management system supplier

  • Connecting with the DV service gives the inventory management system additional functionality and therefore added value.
  • Instead of creating and maintaining 200+ different links, only one link needs to be created and maintained.
  • Revenue can be increased by making the vehicle export functionality a paid module.

Additional benefits to the reseller

  • The reseller is allowed to market DV as one of their own products.
  • The reseller is able to create competitive advantages by adding functionality on top of DV.
  • Hexon adapts the interface between the inventory management system and DV to the specifications of the reseller, minimizing the amount of work needed to create and later maintain the interface.

Possible limitations or downsides for the advertiser

  • By default advertisements are created with a uniform look and feel, giving the advertiser less freedom in formatting the advertisements. However, it is possible to influence the default formatting using settings.
  • Not all sites currently meet the requirements set by Hexon. Some are not able to provide feedback. It is therefore possible an advert is incorrectly marked as being advertised.
  • Not all sites are able to receive advertisement mutations in (near) real-time. Advertisements sent to those sites will be processed with a delay.

Possible limitations or downsides for the inventory management system supplier

  • The inventory management system might not have been created with advertising in mind. It is therefore possible some adjustments need to be made.

Additional possible limitations or downsides to the reseller

  • Using an external service creates a dependency. Hexon does its utmost to make sure this dependency will not be perceived as negative.
